WASP 2016

November 30, 2016 - December 4, 2016

WASP 2016, 22nd Congress of the World Association for Social Psychiatry (WASP) at New Delhi Nov 30-Dec 4, 2016. As you know, this is a special occasion for India and the Indian Association of Social Psychiatry to host the WASP Congress for the third time, after successfully hosting it in Delhi 1992 and Agra 2001.

The theme of the Congress, “Social Psychiatry in a Rapidly Changing World” is contemporary and relevant. It reflects our concern for mental health in this age of globalization, commercialization and the merging of boundaries between nations due to the rapid advances in information technology. Our world is changing as never before, which has profound implications for mental health. We are sure, the deliberations of the Congress will give us newer and newer insights into the emerging dynamics in all these areas.

WASP is one of the oldest global mental health organizations. Having been founded in London in 1965, we have celebrated our Golden Jubilee Conference again in London in 2015 under the able guidance of our President Prof Tom Craig, which was a grand success.

Indian Association of Social Psychiatry- the hosts- with more than 1,000 members is one of the largest member societies of the WASP. It is also a member society of World Psychiatric Association and is thus able to exert powerful influence in the mental health matters in the world.
