Tripura: 19 year old NEET aspirant drowns at Saika waterfall

Agartala: In a tragic incident, a 19 year old medical aspirant who was preparing for the NEET UG 2026 re examination died after reportedly drowning at Saika Waterfall in Kamalpur.

His parents alleged that he had gone to the waterfall with six friends on Saturday morning. The group reportedly entered the water together after reaching the spot in the morning.

During the outing, he went missing underwater. His friends immediately started searching for him and later pulled him out of the water. However, he had already died by the time he was recovered.

As per Tripurainfo media report, the youth was a NEET aspirant preparing for a medical career. He completed his schooling from Don Bosco School, Dewan Bazar, Bishramganj, and later studied Science at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in Agartala.

Determined to pursue a career in medicine, he had been preparing rigorously for the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) and was reportedly getting ready for a re-examination opportunity. 

His death has left his family members in shock. Local residents of Bishramganj described him as a disciplined, humble, and ambitious young man whose dedication to studies inspired many in the community. 

Medical Dialogues had reported that a final-year MBBS student of the Kolkata Medical College and Hospital died after reportedly drowning in the Hooghly River while bathing at Babughat. The student's body was discovered in the river around 4.50 am after he was swept away by strong currents while bathing in the river around 3 am near Golabari Ghat, close to Kashimitra Burning Ghat.

The incident took place when the student had left the main boys' hostel with a friend around 3 am. The two reportedly went to Babughat, spent some time there and then decided to take a dip in the river. He was swept away by the strong current during high tide
