20-YEAR-OLD MAN DIED AFTER EATING LEFTOVER PASTA: KNOW WHAT IS FRIED RICE SYNDROME

A tragic incident involving a 20-year-old man who passed away in 2008 after consuming spaghetti that was five days old has reappeared after a Reddit article and a TikTok video went viral explaining his cause of death, which highlights the dangers of Fried Rice Syndrome (FRS).
According to reports, the man, identified as AJ, was a resident of Brussels, Belgium. He cooked the pasta five days prior and kept it in his kitchen at room temperature.
He ate the spaghetti and warmed it up after a five-day break before going to play. He came home thirty minutes later with a headache, nausea, and stomach pain. He started throwing up, and his condition worsened.
He drank some water and went to bed around midnight. He didn't wake up to go to school the next morning, so his parents went to check on him and discovered that he had passed away.
The individual exhibited substantial centrilobular liver necrosis, which may have prevented his organs from working, according to the postmortem results. The study also stated that it had been fatal to leave the food at room temperature for several days.
WHAT IS FRIED RICE SYNDROME?
Eating reheated items like rice, potatoes, and pasta can result in fried rice syndrome, a kind of food poisoning. Food that has not been cooked contains Bacillus cereus spores, which are resistant to heat and can survive cooking.
As was the situation in AJ's death, if the prepared meal is left out at room temperature, the spores develop into bacteria that can multiply and generate toxins that can make people throw up.
