Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM), is an annual international health campaign organized every October to increase awareness of the disease and to raise funds for research into its cause, prevention, and cure.
Breast cancer is a disease in which cells in the breast grow out of control. Signs of breast cancer may include a lump in the breast, a change in breast shape, dimpling of the skin, fluid coming from the nipple, a newly inverted nipple, or a red or scaly patch of skin.
The first organized effort to bring widespread attention to breast cancer occurred as a weeklong event in the United States in October 1985, founded by the American Cancer Society and the Imperial Chemical Industries Pharmaceuticals.
The goal of Breast Cancer Awareness Month is to get as many people as possible involved in raising awareness and funds to help support life-saving research and life-changing support.
The theme for Breast Cancer Awareness month 2021 is “RISE: Rally In Supporting, Serving and Screening Everyone,” which encourages women to go for mammogram screening and raise breast cancer awareness.
