WHAT IS CERVICAL CANCER AWARENESS MONTH?
It is the primary cause of cancer-related fatalities in India and is one of the most common cancers in women. The Human Papilloma Virus, a sexually transmitted illness, is responsible for roughly 70–80% of this.
CAUSES OF CERVICAL CANCER
HPV, which is virtually entirely avoidable and spreads through sexual contact, is the cause of almost all cervical malignancies. A person's risk of contracting HPV and developing cervical cancer is increased by engaging in sexual activity at an early age, having several sexual partners.
SYMPTOMS OF CERVICAL CANCER
Vaginal bleeding between periods, menstrual bleeding heavier than usual, pain during intercourse, pelvic pain and vaginal bleeding after menopause
DIAGNOSIS OF CERVICAL CANCER
Cervical tissue examination confirms the diagnosis of cervical cancer. PAP smear cytology aids in the identification of malignant and precancerous cells. Biopsy is method of taking tissue cores for examination by pathologist.
TREATMENT FOR CERVICAL CANCER
The stage of the tumor determines how cervical cancer is treated. Chemo-radiotherapy or surgery can be used to treat cancer in its early stages. Patients receiving chemotherapy, targeted treatment, and immunotherapy for advanced-stage cancer.
HPV PREVENTION
HPV can be prevented by having safe sexual encounters, avoiding direct contact, and using barrier techniques. The best way to avoid infection and cervical cancer is to get an HPV vaccination.
