KATE MIDDLETON PRINCESS OF WALES, REVEALS SHE'S SUFFERING FROM CANCER
Kate, the Princess of Wales of Britain, announced on Friday that she was receiving prophylactic chemotherapy after scans following a major abdominal surgery in January showed evidence of cancer.
The cancer revelation was described as a "huge shock" by Kate, the 42-year-old wife of Prince William, the heir apparent. King Charles is receiving treatment for cancer, which is a new health blow to the British royal family.
In January, Kate spent two weeks in the hospital following a planned operation for an undisclosed but non-cancerous disease, which her office reported at the time was successful.
Kate did, however, state in a video message that more testing had discovered malignancy. She reported feeling better and growing stronger.
"My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy, and I am now in the early stages of that treatment," stated Kate.
WHAT IS CHEMOTHERAPY?
Chemotherapy is a cancer treatment that uses drugs to kill or slow the growth of cancer cells. Administered orally or intravenously, it targets rapidly dividing cells, with side effects including hair loss, nausea, and a weakened immune system.
