World Cancer Day was established on 4 February 2000 at the World Cancer Summit Against Cancer, which was held in Paris. There were approximately 18.1 million cancer cases around the world in 2020. Of these, 9.3 million cases were in men and 8.8 million in women.
The Practice of World Cancer Day is established for reducing the global impact of cancer and to provide support for cancer patients and survivors. World Cancer Day also targets misinformation and stigma about cancer.
Theme 2022: Realizing the problem
This year is to question the status quo and help in reducing the stigma; understanding the perspectives of cancer patients and their communities
Many medications and drugs are available to treat cancer, many more are being studied. There are Local treatments (surgery and radiation therapy), for specific tumor or area of the body and Drug treatments (chemotherapy, immunotherapy, or targeted therapy) also called Systemic treatments.
