SMOKING
Smoking is never a wise decision. Apart from its association with heart and lung diseases, smoking also increases the likelihood of acquiring eye disorders such as cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, dry eye syndrome, and age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
TOO MUCH SCREEN TIME
Many of us spend our workdays staring at computer displays and browsing through our phones. When we have free time, we either play video games or watch films. We frequently find ourselves staring at digital devices for a significant portion of the day.
NOT WEARING SUNGLASSES
When you go outside, do you wear sunscreen? Sunglasses are essential year-round and are equally necessary as clothing! In addition to being painful, UV radiation from the sun can harm the cornea and lens of your eye. Serious eye conditions like age-related macular degeneration (AMD), cataracts, and cancer can also be brought on by UV radiation exposure.
RUBBING YOUR EYES
Our habit of mindlessly massaging our eyes is common. Rubbing your eyes can hurt your cornea, which is the translucent portion of your eye that lets light in. So, it's not always a harmless habit. A condition known as keratoconus, which can cause vision loss, can result from the cornea weakening and bulging into a cone shape.
SLEEPING WITH CONTACTS ON
Although using contact lenses gives you more freedom, you should always remember to take them out before bed. Long-term contact lens wear without cleaning can lead to the accumulation of microorganisms between the lens and the cornea.
NOT GETTING REGULAR EYE EXAMS
It is advisable to arrange an eye test as soon as you notice any problems with your vision or inflammation in your eyes. Everyone should get their eyes examined every one to two years. If you wear glasses or contact lenses, or if you have a personal or family history of eye disease, you should see your eye doctor more frequently.
