THINGS TO REMEMBER BEFORE MEASURING BLOOD PRESSURE

In the 30 minutes before your blood pressure is measured you should consider the following:
AVOID CAFFEINATED BEVERAGES
As caffeinated Beverages may increase BP by about 3-15 mm Hg in systolic and 4-13 mm Hg in diastolic.
AVOID SMOKING
As Smoking may elevate BP by 5 to 10 mm Hg temporarily
AVOID ALCOHOL
As alcohol may cause an acute increase of BP by 5 to 10 mm Hg
AVOID EXCERCISE
As exercise can increase blood pressure for a short term
In the 5 minutes before your blood pressure is measured, remember the following:
EMPTY THE BLADDER
As a full, one can temporarily raise BP by 10 to 15 mm Hg
SIT STILL
Sit still while measuring your blood pressure to get the appropriate result
