The thyroid is a butterfly-shaped gland that is situated beneath the adam's apple on the front of our neck. Hormones produced by this gland aid in controlling our metabolism, growth, and developmental processes. Thyroid hormone imbalance causes a number of issues, including altered metabolism, vulnerability to weight gain, bone and hair loss, increased risk of heart disease, hormonal imbalance, celiac disease, and diabetes. When our thyroid does not produce enough hormones, it is known as hypothyroidism and causes rapid weight gain.
