World Birth Defects Day is observed on 3 March every year. It was launched to spread awareness of birth defects and its preventions and care, as birth defects may cause long-term disability, which impacts individuals, their families, healthcare systems, and societies.
World Birth Defects Day was observed on 3 March 2015 with 12 organizations. Since then more than 100 international organizations joined together for World Birth Defects Day. More than 6 lakh children may be born in India with congenital anomalies or birth defects every year.
World Birth Defects Day was launched to raise awareness of this serious global problem and advocate for more birth defects prevention, surveillance, care, and research. These Defects may affect all races and ethnicities, but it is usually high in low- and middle resource countries.
