WORLD HEALTH DAY

06th April 2024
WHAT IS WORLD HEALTH DAY?
World Health Day is an annual observance established by the World Health Organization (WHO) to draw attention to and raise awareness about international public health issues. Celebrated on 7th April every year to mark the anniversary of the founding of the World Health Organization.
WHY IS IT CELEBRATED?
World Health Day focuses on a specific public health concern, aiming to create awareness of a particular health theme and highlight a priority area of concern for global health. It serves as an opportunity to drive worldwide attention to important aspects of global health and promote health equity and access to healthcare.
THEME FOR 2024
The theme for World Health Day 2024 is 'My health, My right'. This theme was chosen to champion the right of everyone, everywhere to have access to quality health services, education, and information, as well as safe drinking water, clean air, good nutrition, quality housing, decent working and environmental conditions, and freedom from discrimination.
HISTORY OF WORLD HEALTH DAY
World Health Day has been observed annually since 1950. The idea for the day originated from the First Health Assembly held by the World Health Organization in 1948, which was the same year the WHO was established. The Assembly decided to celebrate 7th April of each year, starting from 1950, as World Health Day.
