WORLD LIVER DAY

19TH APRIL 2023
THEME FOR 2023
The theme for this year is "Be Vigilant, Do Regular Liver Check-Ups, Fatty Liver Can Affect Anyone," which emphasises the importance of routine liver exams because anyone can develop fatty liver, regardless of risk factors like obesity (overweight), insulin resistance (diabetes), and excessive alcohol consumption.
WHAT IS WORLD LIVER DAY?
Every year on April 19, the world observes World Liver Day (WLD), a day set aside to promote awareness of the liver disease among the general public. The events held on this health awareness day are planned in collaboration with associations of numerous international and local governing organisations.
HISTORY OF WORLD LIVER DAY
The World Health Organization (WHO) established World Liver Day to emphasise the significance of raising awareness of and funding for research into liver disease. On April 19, 2012, it was first observed; since then, it has grown in popularity. Every year, a wide range of World Liver Day programmes and events are hosted by numerous hospitals, health organisations, and liver treatment facilities.
WHAT ARE LIVER DISEASES?
Liver disease may run in families. Viruses, alcohol use, and obesity are just a few examples of the many factors that can harm the liver and result in liver problems. Cirrhosis, which can cause liver failure and be fatal, is a condition that develops over time as a result of liver damage conditions. But early intervention might give the liver some breathing room.
TIPS TO MAINTAIN A HEALTHY LIVER
Eat a nutritious, balanced diet that is high in protein and fibre,  regularly practise meditation and exercise to reduce stress, avoid drinking and smoking, do not self-medicate, schedule vaccinations, keep a healthy weight, and avoid sharing unprotected sex and contaminated needles.
