WORLD MARROW DONOR DAY 2023

Every year, a unique day called World Marrow Donor Day (WMDD) is observed to honour all blood stem cell donors across the globe. Additionally, it is a day to educate the public and decision-makers about the value of signing up to be a blood stem cell donor and the effects of a patient's life-saving blood stem cell transplant.

Every year on the third Saturday in September, World Marrow Donor Day (WMDD) is observed to promote awareness of the value of bone marrow and stem cell donation. It also serves as a day to show gratitude to donors whose unselfish gifts have saved lives.

The spongy material called bone marrow is located in the middle of the bones. It produces things like bone marrow stem cells, which go on to make blood cells. Each type of blood cell that the bone marrow produces performs a crucial function. White blood cells combat infections, platelets assist blood clots to halt bleeding, and red blood cells supply oxygen to the body's tissues.

World Marrow Donor Day promotes marrow and stem cell donation, growing donor databases, and saving lives by connecting patients with life-threatening conditions like leukemia and other blood disorders with vitally needed matches.

You must be between the ages of 18 and 60 (age restrictions may vary by region), in excellent health, and willing to give to any patient in need if you want to become a life-saving donor.
