World Mental Health Day was observed for the first time on 10 October 1992 as an annual activity of the World Federation for Mental Health by the then Deputy Secretary General Richard Hunter.
Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood.
According to WHO, world mental health day is celebrated to spread awareness regarding mental health issues. The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated mental health issues which makes it all more important that people are more in need of mental support.
The theme of World Mental Health Day 2021 is "Mental Health in an Unequal World." The theme focuses that access to mental health services remains unequal.
