WORLD POPULATION DAY

11TH JULY 2023
THEME FOR 2023
The theme for this year's event has been set by the UN as "Unleashing the power of gender equality: Uplifting the voices of women and girls to unlock our world's infinite possibilities."
WHAT IS WORLD POPULATION DAY?
World Population Day is celebrated annually on July 11. Rapid population growth has led to a number of problems and challenges around the world. Maternal health, economic woes, and poverty are just a few of the issues that the expanding population has an impact on. The purpose of the annual observance is to inform and educate people about the challenges posed by the growing world population.
HISTORY OF WORLD POPULATION DAY
In order to highlight the significance of population-related issues and to increase public awareness of them, the UN established World Population Day in 1989. This day offers the chance to concentrate on various population-related topics, including demographics, family planning, reproductive health, and sustainable development.
SIGNIFICANCE OF WORLD POPULATION DAY
India has overtaken the United States as the world's most populous nation with an estimated 8 billion people. World population day is significant for everyone, but it is particularly significant for a nation with a large and dense population, like India. Few people are aware of this, so in order to raise awareness among the general public, we should designate this day as a special occasion or holiday in educational institutions and through widespread advertising.
POPULATION GROWTH FACTS
About 83 million more people are added to the world's population each year. While the population of Europe is declining, it is increasing in Africa. Monaco has the world's densest population despite being the second-smallest independent state. The average global life expectancy was 67 years old in 2000, but over the past 20 years, it has risen to 72. Approximately 27% of the world's population are millennials.
