The first World Sight Day was celebrated on 8 October, 1998. It was first initiated by Lions Club International Foundation (LCIF). Later, World Sight Day became a joint initiative between WHO and IAPB.
World Sight Day is globally observed to raise awareness about eye health and to recognise the work done by the thousands of ophthalmologists across the world to fix vision impairment.
This year, World Health Organization (WHO) is celebrating this day with the theme “Love Your Eyes”.
