WORLD SLEEP DAY

17TH MARCH 2023
THEME FOR 2023
The theme for this year's Sleep Day is 'Sleep is Essential for Health'.
WHAT IS SLEEP DAY?
World Sleep Day is an annual celebration of sleep and a call to action on important issues related to sleep. It is organized by the World Sleep Day Committee of the World Sleep Society and aims to lessen the burden of sleep problems on society through better prevention and management of sleep disorders.
HISTORY OF WORLD SLEEP DAY
World Sleep Day was first observed on 14th March 2008 by the World Sleep Society, previously known as the World Association of Sleep Medicine (WASM). The goal of the first World Sleep Day was to bring together sleep healthcare providers to discuss and distribute sleep information around the world.
IMPORTANCE OF SLEEP
Getting enough sleep is essential for maintaining optimal health and well-being. Like exercise and a balanced diet, sleep may help prevent a range of health issues, including heart disease and depression. Poor sleeping habits can also lead to disorders such as insomnia, narcolepsy, sleep apnea, and restless leg syndrome.
