WORLD SPINAL CORD INJURY DAY 2023

05TH SEPTEMBER 2023
THEME FOR 2023
The theme for this year is "Access to SCI services; a life less complicated." As the chair of the ISCoS Prevention Committee, I firmly feel that this is a crucial issue that needs our undivided attention.
WHAT IS WORLD SPINAL CORD INJURY DAY?
International days are effective tools for raising public awareness and mobilizing authorities on certain pressing topics. Since 2016, "Spinal Cord Injury Day" has been observed annually on September 5 by the International Spinal Cord Society (ISCoS).
For people with spinal cord injuries (SCI) and their families, access to SCI services is crucial. However, due to a number of variables, including a lack of resources, geographic location, budgetary limitations, and a lack of understanding about the services offered, access to these programs might be difficult. This can result in an unnecessarily complicated life, adding further difficulties to an already challenging position.
The spinal cord extends from the brain all the way to the pelvis. It sends signals from the brain to the rest of the body, impacting things like blood pressure, control over the bowels and bladder, walking, breathing, and movement. These processes are sometimes severely impacted by spinal cord injuries, which can result in loss of mobility and control over bodily functions.
