HISTORY OF WORLD SUICIDE PREVENTION DAY
The World Health Organisation (WHO) and the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP) collaborated to create the day. The day is a component of the WHO's 1999 global suicide prevention effort. Since 2011, events have been planned around the day in more than 40 countries. Events are held on this day by the WHO, IASP, and the World Federation for Mental Health (WFMH) to increase public awareness of societal stigmas that can contribute to suicide as well as early warning signs of suicidal conduct.
