New Delhi: Doctor Arrested For Allegedly Raping Patient In Dwarka

NEW DELHI: A 47-year-old orthopedic surgeon of a civil hospital in Gurgaon was arrested from New Delhi on Sunday for allegedly raping a patient, police said.

The 44-year-old victim in her complaint to the police on Friday alleged she recently visited the doctor ( name not revealed) at Gurgaon civil hospital following pain in her leg which was operated upon by him two years ago, a senior police officer said.

The doctor advised her for an X-ray and when she visited the hospital with the report she was asked to wait.

When the hospital OPD closed, the doctor took her to his friend in Dwarka on the pretext that he would help her get a job in an NGO.

Later, he took her to his flat in southwest Delhi’s Dwarka area and raped her there, he said, adding the doctor also allegedly threatened her of dire consequences if she reported the matter to police.

Initially, she kept quiet but approached police on October 7, he said, adding the doctor was arrested the same day.

“We have conducted the medical examination of the victim which confirmed rape,” the officer said. A case under section 376 (punishment for rape) of IPC has been registered against the accused, he added.

  1. It has become a fashion to befriend a dr ,get a VIP attention and care. Later on have good time consensually and when things go hunky dory then blame that dr had raped her. We\’re there any signs and symptoms of rejection or struggle to avoid a rape. If not then both should either be free or in jail as both are equally culpable.

  2. A PUCCA CASE OF ATTEMPT TO BLACKMAIL; THE \”patient\” SHOULD ALSO BE ARRESTED!!

  3. now a days it becomes a fashion to report against a doctor . something is going wrong i think.

  4. I fail to understand why did this lady discuss her employment with the doctor at all. Why on earth would anyone ever accompany the doctor to a friend\’s house to get a job, why not ask him to give the office contact of this person and request the doctor to put a word in for her. Why then go to his flat. He could not have pushed her into his car. She must have gone voluntarily. All that goes against her.
However why on earth was a doctor even bothering to offer to take a patient to a friend\’s house or his own on the pretence of getting her a job. He has been stupid landing himself in that position. So in a way deserves what he is getting, even though it does not sound all that black and white.

  5. THIS sounds fishy, that the patent was willing to offer her body for a job, but changed her mind. Still this doctor should be in jail.

  6. It has become a fashion to malign the name of doctors, thanks to media and movies like Munna bhai which show medical professionals in a very bad light. This case is particular that she consensually went to flat, then alleging.

  7. Unlike in developed countries lot of malpractice and bad behavior of physicians occur in India.
The Medical association should have an easily available phone number and address in each city for receiving complaints. Those who are violated should register a case with local police without delay. I do not understand how the doctors who examined her could confirm after a few days, the truth.
