Virudhunagar: A radiographer working at the Virudhunagar Government Medical College Hospital was placed under suspension after a trainee doctor from the same institute accused him of sexually harassing her while the latter went for a scan.
The doctor is undergoing training at the Virudhunagar Government Medical College Hospital. She had reportedly fallen ill and had gone to get a scan at the hospital.
However, the radiographer is reported to have sexually harassed the doctor, following which the latter lodged a complaint to Dean J Sangumani.
The hospital set up a committee to investigate the incident based on the doctor's complaint. The committee, after the inquiry, found out that the sexual harassment incident is true, and the radiographer was held responsible. The hospital authorities, as per a media report in the Times of India, suspended the radiographer after the completion of the inquiry.
The Virudhunagar Government Medical College was established in 2021 and was recently approved for 150 MBBS seat intake for its academic year 2022. The college is affiliated with Dr MGR Medical University in Chennai. The National Medical Commission (NMC) had given its nod to the newly established Virudhunagar Government Medical College in 2021 to admit MBBS students, which was reported by the Medical Dialogues team.
Meanwhile, the Medical Dialogues team had last reported about another case of sexual harassment in which the World Health Organization had dismissed one of its senior managers for sexual misconduct following an investigation prompted by a complaint by a junior British doctor. Waqanivalu, a Fijian doctor who headed a unit on non-communicable diseases at the global health agency’s Geneva headquarters was dismissed from the organization. Dr Rosie James, who works for England’s National Health Service, made her complaint in a Twitter message in October last year.
