NHRC sends notice to Director AIIMS over denial of treatment to a road accident victim

The National Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report that a man ran from one hospital to another in Delhi to save the life of his eight year old niece, Neha, who was injured in a raod accident, but none of them attended to the girl and she died in his arms on the 12th August, 2015.
Issuing notices to the Secretary, Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, Director AIIMS and Delhi Police Commissioner, the Commission has observed that the contents of the media report, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of human rights of the victim child. They have been given two weeks to respond.
Reportedly, the girl was run over by a truck in South Delhi’s Rangpuri area at about 2.00PM. She was taken to the Safdarjung Hospital and from there sent to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, AIIMS and from there to AIIMS Trauma Centre but denied admission even as they were accompanied by a policeman.
They again called Police Control Room for their intervention. Police arrived and had a word with the doctors at AIIMS and subsequently, she was declared dead at 6.30PM. Her uncle, Pradeep, allegedly, said that she was dying but nobody even bothered to check her. The family members work as labourers and have no regular income.
