INTERNATIONAL SELF-CARE DAY

24TH JULY, 2023
THEME FOR 2023
The theme of International Self-Care Day in 2023 is "Resilience, adaptability, and thriving in adversity," which is a global call to action for people to build resilience because it can help people manage stress, deal with difficult emotions, and maintain their physical and mental health.
WHAT IS INTERNATIONAL SELF-CARE DAY?
International Self-Care Day is observed every year on the 24th of July to recognise the importance and need for self-care. Today is the last day of the international self-care month, from June 24 to July 24. This presents a significant opportunity to raise awareness of the benefits of effective self-health management on a global scale.
HISTORY OF INTERNATIONAL SELF-CARE DAY
International Self-Care Day was established in 2011 by the International Self-Care Foundation (ISF), a UK-based organisation. Since then, the holiday has been observed every year with a special focus on the value of caring for oneself. It's an opportunity to use the media to spread the word about the importance of self-care to a wider audience.
SIGNIFICANCE OF INTERNATIONAL SELF-CARE DAY
In order to reduce the strain on healthcare systems and to put patients at the centre of their own care, self-care aims to empower people to actively participate in their own healthcare. Self-care practises give you the freedom to select and receive medical attention whenever you need it. Self-care techniques supplement healthcare systems rather than taking their place. They are part of an all-encompassing healthcare plan that strengthens primary care and universal health coverage.
MEANING OF SELF-CARE
Self-care is the process of developing behaviours to ensure one's overall well-being, foster health, and actively manage illness when it manifests. Every day, people choose what to eat, exercise, sleep, read, and take care of their teeth. The community—a group that supports the person engaging in self-care—plays a significant role in access to, implementation of, and success of self-care activities in general.
