WORLD BRAIN DAY

22ND JULY 2023
THEME FOR 2023
This year's theme for World Brain Day is "Brain Health and Disability: Leave No One Behind." This global movement aims to fill the knowledge gap and raise public awareness of problems with brain health.
WHAT IS WORLD BRAIN DAY?
For the past nine years, the 22nd of July has been designated as "World Brain Day" or "International Brain Day," a day dedicated to raising awareness of brain disorders. On this day, a number of local and international organisations and communities come together with the goal of highlighting the growing advocacy for and awareness of neurological conditions in healthcare, education, and research.
HISTORY OF WORLD BRAIN DAY
The World Federation of Neurology (WFN) was established on July 22nd, 1957. The Public Awareness and Advocacy Committee suggested observing "World Brain Day" on July 22, 2014. The delegates enthusiastically embraced this suggestion when it was made during the World Congress of Neurology (WCN) Council of Delegates meeting on September 22, 2013. The Board of Trustees agreed to make this an annual project at their meeting in February 2014.
SIGNIFICANCE OF WORLD BRAIN DAY
The percentage of non-communicable and injury-related neurological diseases in India's overall disease burden has more than doubled over the last three decades (1990–2019), which may be related to the country's growing elderly population. It is alarming that funding for prevention, treatment, education, and research is low compared to other diseases, despite the fact that brain disorders are among the most expensive diseases in the world and the leading cause of disability and death. As a result, it's critical to increase awareness of brain disorders and acknowledge their importance in terms of disease prevention.
MAIN OBJECTIVES
The following are the main objectives of World Brain Day: Global awareness of brain health is crucial for mental, social, and physical well-being and can help to lessen the disability brought on by conditions of the brain. Brain impairments can be avoided, treated, and recovered from. Access to high-quality care, treatment, rehabilitation, and assistive technology is necessary for brain health. Promoting equality for people with cognitive impairments through education. International efforts are necessary to achieve optimal brain health.
HOW TO KEEP A HEALTHY BRAIN?
Maintaining a regular sleep schedule that includes at least seven hours. Regularly work out for at least two hours each day just before bed. Taking safety measures while driving (wearing a helmet and a seatbelt). Requesting medical help if you're experiencing anxiety or depression. Two hours before going to bed or sleep, refrain from using screens. Staying away from stimulants like caffeine and nicotine at least six hours before bed. Adopting a healthy diet that includes foods like beans, seafood, nuts, seeds, and green vegetables.
