The theme for world heart rhythm week 2023 is "Take Fainting to Heart" which attempts to raise awareness about the relationship between syncope and arrhythmias.
WHAT IS WORLD HEART RHYTHM WEEK
Every year, World Heart Rhythm Week is observed to increase awareness about recognizing arrhythmias and ensuring individuals are aware of their heart rhythm and do not miss a heartbeat.
WHAT IS HEART ARRHYTHMIA?
An erratic heartbeat is referred to as a cardiac arrhythmia. When the electrical signals that coordinate the heart's beats fail to function properly, heart rhythm abnormalities (heart arrhythmias) arise. Because of the incorrect signaling, the heart beats too quickly (tachycardia), too slowly (bradycardia), or irregularly.
SYMPTOMS OF HEART ARRHYTHMIA
Heart arrhythmias may not produce any symptoms. When checking you for another reason, a doctor may find an erratic heartbeat. Arrhythmia symptoms and signs may include: fluttering in the chest, Tachycardia (rapid heartbeat), Bradycardia (slow heartbeat), Chest ache, Breathing difficulty
WHAT CAUSES ARRHYTHMIA?
Even if your heart is healthy, you could develop an arrhythmia. It could also happen as a result of: Cardiovascular disease, An electrolyte imbalance (such as sodium or potassium) in your blood, Heart injury or alterations, such as diminished blood flow or stiff heart tissue, are examples of heart injury or changes. The recovery period following heart surgery, Fever, or infection Certain drugs, for example, Problems with your heart's electrical signals Strong feelings, worry, or surprise Things you use on a daily basis, such as alcohol, tobacco, caffeine, or exercise
TREATMENT FOR HEART ARRHYTHMIA
Treatment for heart arrhythmia is usually only required if the irregular heartbeat is producing substantial symptoms or if the condition puts you at risk of developing more serious heart problems. Medication, therapies such as vagal maneuvers, cardioversion, catheter procedures, or cardiac surgery may be used to treat heart arrhythmias.
