The theme for World No Tobacco Day in 2023 is "We Need Food, Not Tobacco," according to the World Health Organisation. The global campaign 2023 aims to inform and inspire tobacco farmers to plant healthy, environmentally friendly crops by educating them about alternative crop production and marketing possibilities.
WHAT IS WORLD NO TOBACCO DAY?
World No Tobacco Day, which is observed annually on May 31 to raise awareness of the risks associated with tobacco use and its products as well as their negative effects on the environment, society, and the family, is sponsored by the World Health Organisation.
HISTORY OF WORLD NO TOBACCO DAY
The World Health Organization's state members created "World No Tobacco Day" in 1987 to spread awareness of the deadly consequences of tobacco use on global public health (deaths and disease). With Resolution WHA40.38 from 1987, the World Health Assembly designated April 7 as "a world no-smoking day" in 1988. World No Tobacco Day was established in 1988 by Resolution WHA42.19.
EFFECT OF TOBACCO CONSUMPTION ON HEALTH
Many detrimental impacts on our health are caused by smoking and tobacco usage. They may be associated with the following fatal illnesses: stroke, small vessel ischemic disease of the brain (SVID), vascular dementia, gastrointestinal cancer (like GERD), achalasia cardia (affecting the pancreas, stomach, mouth, liver, rectum, and esophagus), neurovascular complications, and neurological disorders, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), tuberculosis, lung diseases, heart disease, diabetes, and eye conditions.
TIPS FOR QUITTING SMOKING
To quit smoking following are advised: utilizing a nicotine replacement strategy, avoiding potentially explosive places like bars, using hard candies or sugarless gum to quell your desires for cigarettes, the use of distraction and traveling to a smoke-free area to satisfy a tobacco desire, regular exercise, and trying alternative stress-reduction methods including yoga, deep breathing, muscular relaxation, and music.
