On October 20, 1996, the National Osteoporosis Society of the United Kingdom observed the first World Osteoporosis Day, with assistance from the European Commission. Afterwards, World Osteoporosis Day (WOD) was established in 1997 by the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF)
