WORLD PREMATURITY DAY 2023

17TH NOVEMBER 2023
WHAT IS WORLD PREMATURITY DAY?
On November 17, the world observes World Prematurity Day, a day to increase awareness about preterm delivery. It draws attention to the difficulties preterm babies encounter and promotes better assistance and care.
HISTORY OF WORLD PREMATURITY DAY
In order to raise awareness of the millions of preterm babies born worldwide, the March of Dimes first declared November 17 to be World Prematurity Day in 2011. Babies born before 37 weeks of pregnancy are considered premature, or "preterm" babies.
THEME FOR 2023
World Prematurity Day 2023's worldwide theme is "Small actions, BIG IMPACT: Immediate skin-to-skin care for every baby everywhere." All babies, especially premature babies, have been shown to benefit greatly from skin-to-skin contact.
SIGNIFICANCE OF WORLD PREMATURITY DAY
World Prematurity Day is important for bringing attention to the difficulties associated with premature delivery. In order to improve outcomes for the smallest and most vulnerable newborns, it highlights the need for better healthcare, support for preterm babies and their families, and international initiatives to lower the prevalence of preterm births.
