Chennai: Health Minister Ma Subramanian has recently confirmed that the state government has appointed doctors, nurses, and healthcare workers for new hospitals to ensure the availability of the necessary workload.
However, due to financial and legal restrictions, the government is recruiting doctors on a contractual basis for now.
The state made appointments of 500 new doctors, one each for 500 urban primary health care centres opened across the state. “We are recruiting 30 associate professors and 130 assistant professors for the upcoming multi-speciality hospital in Guindy. A government order has been issued for appointing these doctors and nearly 700 other healthcare workers,” he said. He further stated in Times of India, “A young medical student doing his residency died of a heart attack. This is not rare and should not be quoted as an example to show that doctors’ life is stressful."
The Tamil Nadu government has been taking several steps this year to ensure accessible and affordable healthcare. As a great revolution in the history of the medical sector, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu opened 500 new hospitals in a single day on 7th June. CM has also inaugurated the huge "Artist Centenary Hospital of Excellence" with 1000 beds worth 376.52 crores as a great revolution in the history of the medical field. A few days ago the foundation stone of a 50-bed intensive care unit was laid at Tirunelveli Government Medical College Hospital at a cost of Rs 23.75 crore.
Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian previously announced that the state would soon have hospitals in 25 district headquarters. The minister said that the files have been forwarded to the Finance department and added that construction of the hospitals would begin soon. The health department would soon purchase advanced medical equipment for infant care units in Tiruchengode government hospital. A 50-bedded multi-disciplinary hospital building would be constructed in Tiruchengode.
