12,500 health centres to be identified to deliver traditional medicinal services: AYUSH Ministry
The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) has, for instance, developed anti-diabetic ayurvedic drug BGR 34, which has proved a milestone in curing diabetic disease.
New Delhi: The Ayush Ministry is in the process of identifying 12,500 health and wellness centres across the country to deliver traditional medicinal services at grass-root level with special focus on preventive health care keeping in view the rising instances of chronic lifestyle diseases, official sources have said. The Central government aims at strengthening its flagship health insurance scheme Ayushman Bharat by integrating traditional medicine therapy with allopathy at the primary health centres to check rising non-communicable diseases such as diabetes and obesity.

It is stressing on seamless integration of two pillars of Ayushman Bharat — Health and Wellness Centres (HWCs) and Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) — to achieve the “health for all” target.

According to official sources, the need for appointing AYUSH doctors has been increasingly felt at the Primary Health Centres level, particularly following the success of a pilot project launched in 2016 in three districts – Bhilwara (Rajasthan), Surendranagar (Gujarat) and Gaya (Bihar) — ayurvedic medicines, dietary regimen and yoga classes are being used to treat non-communicable diseases.

The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) has, for instance, developed anti-diabetic ayurvedic drug BGR 34, which has proved a milestone in curing diabetic disease, an official said, adding it’s a scientifically developed drug produced by completing various medical tests and is proving very beneficial in controlling diabetes.

Replying to a written question in the Rajya Sabha a few years ago, AYUSH minister Sripad Naik had said that the BGR-34, jointly developed after standardisation and pre-clinical studies by the CSIR’s two labs — the Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CIMAP) and the National Botanical Research Institute (NBRI), is meant to be used by patients of newly diagnosed diabetes only as a measure of disease management.

The drug is being sold by Delhi-based AIMIL Pharmaceuticals.

BGR-34 is a natural DPP-4 (dipeptidyl peptidase 4) inhibitor, a class of drugs which help to lower blood sugar levels in people with type-2 diabetes, and has no side effects, said Sanchit Sharma from AIMIL.

It really A VERY NICE AND GOOD IDEA OF MOA TO PROVIDE TRADITIONAL MEDICINES AND SERVICES TO THE MAJORITY OF THE PEOPLE RECIDING IN RURAL AREAS OF OUR MOTHER LAND.BUT, I DOUBT THE REALITY OF EXECUTION OF THIS PROJECT. ?
In letter F.No.Z.28015/45/2014H&D Cell Dated05/09/2015(6) written to me under the DIRECTION PMO\’S Letter VIDE ID No.PMOPG/D/2016/0092382 DATED 08/04/2016 and Letter F.No.z.28015/45/2014 H&D Cell dated 27/10/2016 MOA wanted to SETUP A 50 BEDDED AYURVEDA UNIT AT KIDWAI CANCER INSTITUTE BANGALORE. and OTHER HOSPITALS,UNDER NAM MISSION,. SO FAR NOTHING HAS DEVELOPED IN THIS DIRECTION.
NEXT, REGARDING THE POWERS OF MOA, ? I had lodged NINE (9)PUBLIC GRIEVANCES TO SAVE AYURVEDA UNIT AT KIDWAI CANCER INSTITUTE BANGALORE FROM THE HOSTILE ENVIRONMENT CREATED BY THE PRESENT DIRECTOR OF KIDWAI CANCER INSTITUTE TO THE SMOOTH FUNCTIONING OF THE AYURVEDA UNIT I got the message as all my Grievances are
Disposed BUT THE GROUND REALITY OF HOSTILITY HAS NOT YET CHANGED SO FAR.. HOW LONG DO MOA EXPECT THE SINGLE AYURVEDA LADY DOCTOR TO STRUGGLE LIKE A PARATROOPER (NOT TO KILL THE ENEMY BUT TO SAVE AND SERVE THE POOR AND NEEDY CANCER PATIENTS ) WITHOUT ANY SUPPORT FORM THE AYUSH AUTHORITIES ? Iam anEYE WITNESS FOR THIS. CAN\’T MOA SHOW THE RIGHT PLACE TO AN ALLOPATH SURGEON who is The Present Director Of KIDWAI CANCER INSTITUTE BANGALORE by CHANCE OF SELLECTION.
I am a MALE BREAST CANCER SURVIVOR Desperately Struggling to promote AYURVEDA in an
INTEGRATED SERVICES TO THE MAJORITY OF THE NEEDY AND POOR PATIENTS IN GOVT HOSPITALS.
The MOU TO START AN AYURVEDA UNIT AT SDS TUBERCULOSIS RESEARCH CENTRE AND RAJIV GANDHI INSTITUTE OF CHEST DISEASES BANGALORE IS PENDING SINCE 17/04/2017. CAN MOA be KIND ENOUGH TO let me know WHEN THEY WILL PROVIDE TRADITIONAL MEDICINES AND SERVICES TO THE \” TB PATIENTS \” ?
I look forward to seeing THE POSITIVE ACTIONS BY THE MINISTRY OF AYUSH IMMIDIATELY.
    WITH BEST WISHES FOR BETTERMENT,
    Yours sincerely,
    Shiva Kumar.T.N.

  5. We visited kidwai hospital for educational visit. But the attitude of the hospital staff was very pathetic being ayurveda pg students

  6. Initiating work with heartedly without pramatic roadmap for designating Aush Dr on lines of allopthic treatment may not only frustate the Doctors or Scheme terminating Aush Dr in demoralizing zone. No person without a valid degree of ,5 years duration with interernship should be called a Doctor or appoint such parmacist to run the Health Center in Modiji government. Decorum ,dignity of Ayush Dr ought not be compromised by the GOI in claiming Healh services expansion through out India & abroad.
