32 medical colleges to get LOP for 21 PG Medical Courses, Check out details
New Delhi: 32 medical colleges are likely to get a letter for permission (LOP) for starting/ adding more seats to 21 PG Medical Courses, according to a recent document released by the Union Health Ministry. If all goes well, this will lead to an addition of 197 PG medical seats in the coming academic year.
Through a letter released to the Deans/Principals of these 32 medical colleges, the Central Government has shown its acceptance of their proposal to start/increase PG courses seats. For the same the ministry has asked the respective medical colleges to provide the essential documents, including bank guarantee for private medical colleges, for the purpose of issuance of LOP. The notification said:-
After careful consideration of the scheme and taking into consideration the recommendations of Medical Council of India in this regard, this Ministry has tome to a conclusion that a letter for starting/increase of seats in the following postgraduate course(S) with intake of students mentioned against each course from the academic session 2018-19 at your college under Section 10 (A) of IMC Act may be issued for obtaining certain essential documents required for issuance of Letter of Permission (LoP)

List of Requirements as per ministry letter:
- The applicant should provide all infrastructural facilities in terms of teaching and non-teaching staff, buildings, equipment and hospital facilities as per Medical Council of India norms.
- No student should be admitted in the above course till the formal permission of the Central Govt. is granted.
- The Private Medical College should provide Bank Guarantee of required amount in favour of Medical Council of India, New Delhi valid for three years from a nationalized/scheduled Bank as per MCI's norms. However, medical colleges/institutions governed by the State Govt. are required to furnish only an undertaking to provide funds in their budget till the facilities are fully provided as per time bound programme indicated by them.
- The Medical Colleges/institutions will provide undertaking to implement the decision regarding payment of stipend to the PG students similar to PG students of Govt. Medical colleges in their State.
- The Govt. Medical College(s) (except those colleges located in MK) should give an undertaking authorising Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), Directorate General of Health Services, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India to include 50% of PG (Medical) seats in All India Quota PG seats for the year 2018-19.
