7 years Jail, Rs 1 crore Fine for Medical Officer, Doctor Wife; Govt told to Takeover Hospital

The ACB court seized the private hospital owned by the couple in Kota and directed the government to acquire the hospital, Ahmad said.

Kota: An Anti-Corruption Bureau court here today sentenced a doctor couple to seven years of rigorous imprisonment for misusing government post and amassing assets more than their known sources of income.

A fine of Rs 50 lakh each was also imposed on them, Assistant Director of Prosecution (ADP), ACB court, Ahsaan Ahmad said.

The court also ordered that a private hospital run by the doctor couple be sealed. Additional director of prosecution (ACB court) Ehsaan Ali Ahmad in an order stated, “Dr RP Sharma and his wife Dr Mohini Sharma were found guilty of conspiracy to accumulate wealth even as they served in the government.”

The court also sentenced 5 relatives of the two doctors including in-laws of Dr R P Sharma named Tejkaran Sharma, Chandrakanta Sharma, to three years of imprisonment and five years jail term to family members Geetanjali Sharma, Kishangopal Sharma and one other Aslam Pathan involved in manipulating the money with the couple, he said, adding that each of the five were also fined Rs 5 lakh.

The in-laws were granted bail as they were 93 and 90 years-old while the five convicted were sent to the jail today, he said.
The ACB court also seized the private hospital owned by the couple in Kota and directed the government to acquire the hospital, Ahmad said.

It is perhaps the first case of conviction where the court ordered for acquisition of a private hospital, the ADP said.

R P Sharma served as a medical officer in Kota from 1982 to 1998 and during this period, he had set up a fake company and research centre with fake share holders of the company, he said.

During this period, he earned an amount over Rs 55 lakh.

The ASP, ACB, Jaipur during investigation found assets of over Rs 33 lakh more than the known sources of income, following which the ASP, ACB, Jaipur in 2003 lodged a case against the doctor couple and six others, he added.

One of the accused in the matter had died during the trial in the court.

The place I am working even the residents are running their private practice with out any fear, shame or guilt. I wish our ACB /lokayutha is made as toothless cobra ( only on the papers). In my state most of Medical COLLEGES belongs to POLITICIANS of the Dominant caste, even the government medical COLLEGES are having an upper hand by the Dominant CASTE people in all important positions.people having caste , community and religion and regional ADVANTAGE enjoy the Power, position , private practice even during working hours. Kar natak…….if rules are implemented in a true sense , good number of so called teachers ( cheaters ) will be behind the bars with out any doubt. I am fight against all odds to curtail such wrong doing for almost 10 years , I filed couple against the government / minister ( He lost the recent elections). It more than 4 years not even come for hearing that too in a High court bench ( better to change bench into a raclinng chair or sleeping cot or coffin ). I don\’t see any chance of getting justice before my retirement. That\’s what the cunning secretary told me with an sarcastic smile ( real s of ..b ). It reminds of one of my friend SAYING \” Being born in this country is a sin and living is a crime\’\”. Even High court judge expressed his frustration , saying that his children should move away from the country.

  2. It is wrong to do private practice if you are in service but it must have been known to lot of people when he started the hospital,According to the information being spread they earned 33 lacks more than their justified earning of 55 lacks. They must have spent a portion of this as their expenses over these years.where will they pay a fine of 1 crore, Also they are imprisoned . This punishment is worse than Death penalty of an act which has caused no harm to health of anyone in the society.with due regards and respect to the law of land . my personal opinion

This is the reason behind low salaries given to the government doctors. On what grounds one crore fine was imposed by the court remains to be evaluated. I am afraid what will happen If the rules of law are stricktly applied in some of the private medical colleges. How many years of imprisonment and how much fine to be imposed on doctors for acting as professors and associate professors with false service certificates and promotion orders.

  4. Does the ACB had guts to fine 1cr as fine politicians esp Lalu. . For them it\’s only jail term for 5yrs without hefty fine,; for making money worth crores. And here for mere 33lakhs, it\’s 1cr fine.. . Corrupt ACB.

  5. It\’s too harsh of a punishment..Hire an expensive lawyer..just like politicians and other government goons do.
