1916 applications for more PG Medical Seats for 2020-21: MCI Data

New Delhi: There are a total of 1916 applications to start/increase PG Medical Seats in various medical colleges across the country for the academic year 2020-21, a recent Medical Council of India (MCI) data has revealed.


Of the total applications, 1076 medical colleges have applied for starting fresh MD/MS courses in different specialities at their medical colleges, while 840 medical colleges have applied for an increase in seats of the courses already offered.


The maximum applications have been made by the states of Maharashtra and Karnataka, the data further added. In Maharashtra, 19 government medical colleges and 23 private medical colleges have applied for more PG medical seats, while in the state of Karnataka total 41 medical colleges have applied for addition of seats including 12 government and 29 private.


Tamil Nadu stood third highest in terms of applications with a total of 33 medical colleges inclusive of 17 government medical colleges and 16 private medical colleges (including trust setups) applying for the addition of PG Medical Seats. Uttar Pradesh Medical colleges also have applied for addition of PG Medical seats with applications of total 32 medical colleges in the state (  15 government and 17 private) applying to the MCI.


The NCT of Delhi has had 2 medical colleges apply for more PG medical seats with out of total 13 applications, 11 applications have been made by one medical college, Hamdard Institute of Medical Sciences for starting various MD/MS courses at their institute.


Analysing the 1900+ applications course wise, 145 applications each have been made for  MS (General Surgery), and MD ( General Medicine) Courses, while 130 applications were made for MD (Anaesthesiology) courses.
