New Delhi: 'Mukhyamantri Punjab Cancer Rahat Kosh Scheme' launched by Shiromani Akali Dal has been a boon the cancer patients of the state.

In two years of its launch, the scheme has provided relief to over 22744 patients. Under the 'Mukhyamantri Punjab Cancer Rahat Kosh Scheme', relief fund of Rs. 1.5 lakh is provided to the cancer patients, for cashless treatment of cancer in various governments and empanelled private hospitals.

The scheme is one of the initiatives of Punjab in its fight against the deadly disease. A 100-bedded advanced Cancer Diagnostic Treatment and Research Centre has been set up at Bathinda. The center is having the first ever radio therapy facility at government rates in Bathinda district.

Equipped with the most advanced key medical equipment like COBALT and LINAC for radiotherapy, and the MRI and ultrasound facility the ACDTRI would treat the cancer patients at lowest rates. Chemotherapy and radiotherapy and surgery would also be done here.

Opened in the industrial growth center Mansa road it is the first cancer research institute of the Punjab government built on six acres of land at a cost of Rs 60 crore.

A 40 bedded cancer care centre at Civil Hospital, Sangrur has also been operationalized in collaboration with Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai. A 200-bedded state-of-the-art Cancer Research centre with an outlay of Rs. 450 crore is being setup by Tata Memorial Centre Mumbai at New Chandigarh, which will be operational soon.

Speaking about the initiatives Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal said, "Taking cognizance of the threat of Cancer in the state, we have pulled all the stops to release our state from the claws of this dreaded disease. These initiatives are the first step to a cancer-free Punjab."

"Apart from providing superlative treatment, we are also working on the prevention of cancer by banning the manufacture, import and use of pesticides that are injurious to health. We are also educating farmers on the use of right kind of pesticides."

Punjab has set a war against cancer with the acclaimed experts spearheading the mission and the demon is sure to lose.
