Affordable lower limb prosthetic systems to be available soon

New Delhi, Sep 8 : Union Minister Thawar Chand Gehlot today inaugurated the new production facility at Kanpur that will make affordable lower limb prosthetic systems a reality.

Under the 'Make In India' initiative, Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) inked the Transfer of Technology and Technical & Consultancy Services agreement with multinational company Ottobock for mass manufacturing of lower limb prosthetic systems for Persons with Disabilities in the country at affordable price, a statement said.

ALIMCO functions under the aegis of Department Of Empowerment Of Person with Disability, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.

With this new production unit, ALIMCO will be able to produce technologically-advanced prosthetic system which will improve the independence and mobility of lower limbs amputees from all section of society in the country, the statement added.

Gehlot distributed artificial limbs and aids to 692 pre-identified beneficiaries with different kind of disabilities at a camp organised in Kanpur Dehat district, it added. YKS PVI
