AIIMS to be set up in AP and J&K

In two separate state reports filed by the local media, India's premier institute AIIMS is likely to be set up in the state of Andhra Pradesh (AP) and Jammu & Kashmir (J&K), respectively.

While the Hindu reported that the state Health Minister Kaqmineni Srinivas of AP has clearly implied that the discussions are in progress with the state chief minister to lay the foundation stone for the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) very soon. The likely date is to be finalized after completing the initial talks.

Currently in talks with the union health minister, JP Nadda, and AYUSH Minister Shripad Ashok Naik Srinivas also updated the media about several other issues like increasing MBBS seats in the State were being discussed along side.

While in separate media report, the inspection for 200 acres of land identified for AIIMS at Jammu has taken traction alongside another important development of union government approving a sanction of 1900 crore to upgrade the existing healthcare infrastructure in the state. This sanctioned fund will also be used for construction of new hospitals, and another 3000 crore will be utilized for building two AIIMS in the state.

According to a report filed by a local newspaper, the government has given its consensous to establish five more medical colleges in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

Minister for Health and Medical Education, ARI and Training, Chowdhary Lal Singh, the state health minister said that government was working on a comprehensive plan to upgrade health infrastructure in a phased manner in rural as well as remote areas of the state. He said health and medical departments set new benchmarks during the past seven months and tangible transformation was being duly acknowledged by the masses under the sector. He said government evolved an effective mechanism to ensure improved healthcare facilities in the state, he said adding that, all healthcare institutions especially in rural and far-off pockets were being equipped with advanced diagnostic and other facilities besides adequate staff.

In a separate appeal made by the state health minister in Andhra Pradesh to the Centre, the government is likely to consider a sanction proposal of Rs.120 crore for establishing a State Cancer Institute at Chinna Kakani in Guntur district in Andhra Pradesh.

He said focus was being laid on strengthening existing health institutions including laboratories and emergency wards to ensure best possible healthcare.

Permission was also sought for setting up a Level-1 Trauma Care Centre in Nellore district and Regional Virology Lab in Guntur district.
