Ambala: A worker of Ambala Health department was booked for allegedly duping pregnant women by carrying out illegal sex determination tests.

Civil Surgeon Vinod Gupta told reporters here that he got a tip-off that the ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activist) worker had been cheating pregnant women by assuring them that she would conduct their child's sex determination test.

However, without conducting a proper test, the accused used to falsely inform them about the sex of the foetus.

A team constituted by Gupta under the supervision of Deputy CMO B B Lala today caught the worker while taking money from a decoy patient for conducting the sex determination test.

On the complaint of the health department, the worker was booked under the provisions of the Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PNDT) Act.
