Andhra Pradesh: The Andhra state Government is undertaking a massive overhauling of its healthcare system . The changes that are to be initiated  include- filling up of vacancies of 422 posts of doctors, up gradation of the government hospital infrastructure, and free health check ups for women.

Dr. Kamineni Srinivas Rao, Minister for Health and Family Welfare said “As part of our endeavour to make the healthcare system more effective, we have embarked on a mammoth task of redrafting the entire process of recruitment, transfers and promotions of doctors in the government hospitals.”

“We are planning to recruit 422 government doctors through Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission. At the same time we have come up with a transparent and performance based promotion and transfer system, wherein the doctors will be transferred or promoted based on their performance. We will follow all the norms set by Medical Council of India in issues related to transfers and promotions,” he further added

As part of the up gradation of infrastructure programme, the state authorities plans to install the most advanced medical equipment in all the thirteen districts of the state. The state plans to set up ten new dialysis centres and 2 health ATM’s in each district, as reported by Pharmabiz. The health ATM’s are being introduced as  pilot ventures-being a new concept. According to Rao, the health ATMs will dispense generic prescription drugs.

The free health check drive for women to be undertaken would involve tests for diseases like cancer, thyroid, diabetes and hormones, the minister stated. Thirteen thousand auxiliary nurses and midwives (ANMs) are being provided with tabs,  to conduct free disease determination tests, on rural  women patients .Another important  change to be brought about in the state is the introduction of ‘Mother Child Express’ call centres for prompt action. 108 and 102  will be the emergency service numbers under this initiative, informed  the minister.
