Kashmir's AYUSH hospital unveils new Yoga Facility

Srinagar: Kashmir's only tertiary-care AYUSH hospital, based in Srinagar, has launched the largest Yoga facility. The new centre, located in a spacious hall, was inaugurated on Saturday by Dr Nuzhat Bashir, the director of the department, to mark the birthday of renowned Unani scholar Hakeem Ajmal Khan Sahab, one of the founders of Jamia Millia Islamia University. 

The facility will treat musculo-skeletal disorders, gynaecological conditions, and lifestyle diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, and obesity which will significantly benefit from the daily yoga practice, news agency UNI reported.

The hospital’s new yoga center adopts a holistic approach to wellness by combining modern therapeutic techniques with ancient yoga practices. It is designed to offer therapeutic Yoga, specialized yoga therapy tailored for specific health conditions, such as chronic pain, headaches, and type 2 diabetes.

“The Yoga facility will help alleviate many lifestyle-related illnesses in our society,” Dr Bashir said in her speech. “We have trained Yoga instructors who will run the facility and ensure people receive the necessary care”, reports UNI.

The assistant director Dr Shujad Hussain Shuja, who also spoke on the occasion, said that Yoga can also be helpful for Non-Communicable Diseases. He urged people to avail this facility.

Hospital’s medical superintendent Dr Mushtaq Ahmad Parray said the facility will organize disease-specific Yoga sessions.

“There are different Yoga postures for different health conditions,” Dr Parray said, adding that Yoga sessions will be free of cost. “The facility will have male and female Yoga instructors.”
