CM Nitish Kumar and Dr Naresh Trehan virtually laid down the foundation stone for the launch of Medanta in the state of Bihar; after signing an MOU of opening the hospital in campus of Jai Prabha Hospital at Kankerbagh within the next 30 months.

To be made functional under the public-private partnership model, the hospital will be equipped with advanced medical capacity utilisation and will have an initial capacity to accommodate 100 patients. However, Dr Naresh Trehan in a press statement clarified that the hospital will have a capacity of 300 beds else the medical facilities will remain under utilised.

Bihar has its own AIIMS set up recently, and this endeavour can be considered as a step forward to boost up the health infrastructure in the state under the ppp model.

The hospital will have orthopaedics, cancer, cardiology. trauma and critical care, neuro sciences, renal sciences, endocrinology and diabetes, gastroenterology, bone marrow transplant, liver and kidney transplants and hepatology departments.

At least 25% beds would be reserved for BPL patients or the ones referred by the government health facilities. They will be charged at CGHS (central government health scheme) rates for investigations and admission. However, OPD charges will be borne by patients, as factually reported by the Times of India
