Biharis Crowding AIIMS- Health Minister in trouble for remarks
Muzaffarpur: A complaint was filed in a court here alleging that Union Minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey had made insulting remarks against the people of Bihar.
Inaugurating the Indradhanush campaign for vaccination of children, the Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare was seen making a remark during his speech," Biharis were flocking to AIIMS in Delhi and straining the premier institute’s resources."He was further seen adding that he had directed doctors to send “such patients” back to the state. Choubey made the controversial comment while stressing on the need to develop health infrastructure in Bihar. “We have this peculiar habit of visiting AIIMS in Delhi for everything. The people of Bihar tend to go there even for a small disease. This has put pressure there and I have directed the doctors to send such patients back to the state," reports News18
Choubey made the controversial comment while stressing on the need to develop health infrastructure in Bihar. “We have this peculiar habit of visiting AIIMS in Delhi for everything. The people of Bihar tend to go there even for a small disease. This has put pressure there and I have directed the doctors to send such patients back to the state," he said
The remark indeed drew an outrage from many and a complaint was filed by Tamanna Hashmi, a Muzaffarpur based social activist, against the minister of state for health and family welfare in the court of the chief judicial magistrate (CJM).
Hashmi said that he felt insulted and hurt after going through a newspaper report which had Choubey's purported remarks against the patients from Bihar who visit the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi.
RJD’s national vice-president Shivanand Tiwary told to News18 “How can he direct doctors to not treat patients from Bihar? He has no right to do so. He is holding a ministerial portfolio at the Centre for the first time and has forgotten his responsibilities."
The plea sought registration of an FIR under IPC sections 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and section 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation).
Chief Judicial Magistrate Hari Prasad posted the matter for tomorrow.
