Ludhiana: A case was registered against a senior BJP leader for allegedly misbehaving with a government doctor at the civil hospital here on Saturday, police said.

The Ludhiana's former senior deputy mayor, Parveen Bansal, a former president of the city unit of the BJP, went to the civil hospital along with an alleged victim of domestic violence on Saturday, they said.

Bansal had heated exchanges with a doctor, who was on duty in the emergency section.

According to Dr Harpreet Bains, a woman came to an emergency on Saturday evening and he asked her to wait for her turn.

However, the BJP leader asked him to examine the woman first, the doctor said. Bansal insisted that grievous injuries should be mentioned in the medico-legal report of the woman, the Bains claimed adding that he refused to do so.

Dr Avinash Jindal, SMO, civil hospital, who is also president of the Ludhiana unit of the IMA, alleged that Bansal not only misbehaved but also made allegations of corruption against the doctor on duty.

The doctors of the hospital went on a strike and also did not attend the emergency services and OPD for two days after the alleged incident.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Dhruman Nimbe said that a case had been registered against Bansal under section 186 of IPC (obstructing public servant in performing duty) and 353 IPC (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty).

No arrest has been made in this connection, he said.
