A diseased Aortic valve was successfully replaced at a rare surgery done at the BLK hospital. A 54 yr old Fiji national reported at the hospital with severe breathlessness and, in being diagnosed with the diseased valve was further recommended various techniques of surgeries.
The principal surgeon at BLK confirmed that the patient was very well informed and opted for the stitch less valve surgery.
Dr Sushant Srivastava, Senior Consultant and Director, Cardio Thoracic and Vascular Surgery at BLK Super Speciality Hospital who led a team of doctors in this surgery, informed that the patient had met him at OPD.
Dr Ajay Kaul, Chairman and HOD, CTVS at the BLK hospital further commented on this new technique being introduced in India for the first time. He further assured that this technologically advanced method replaces the valve in a minute- long surgery. It can be implanted without a surgery too. However, in this particular case, the aortic valve if not operated upon and removed from inside- can lead to serious consequences such as stroke and paralysis.
