The Delhi government has reported that the doctors at the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) dispensaries will now be available to provide consultation facilities to everyone – considering the sudden spurt in the dengue cases. This initiative will be implemented across the CGHS outlets in the capital to attend to patients irrespective of their being beneficiaries of the scheme or not.

With many dengue cases being reported in the capital and a nine-year-old girl succumbing to the fever recently, the situation still remain a major health concern. The unofficial toll now stands at 29, though the official toll, till September 24, stands at 17.

The dengue menace in Delhi still holds strong with almost 1,700 more dengue cases have been reported in the national capital in the last one week, taking the total number of people affected by the disease to 5,471.

"All doctors at various CGHS wellness centres in Delhi and NCR shall provide consultation services and primary out-patient medical care to all citizens -- whether CGHS beneficiaries or not -- who may visit the centres with symptoms of dengue, primarily high fever," an official statement said.

The move is part of the various initiatives taken by the union health ministry to deal with the dengue menace.

CGHS wellness centres function from 7.30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on all working days.
