NEET PG Reform: Supreme Court Issues 10-Point Directives

Doctors' long-pending demands for transparency in the National Eligibility-Entrance Test Postgraduate (NEET-PG) examination have finally been fulfilled. In a landmark judgment, the Supreme Court has issued 10-point directives to reform NEET PG and has directed the National Board of Examinations (NBE) to publish the raw scores, answer keys, and normalisation formula for the NEET PG exam.

"Publish raw scores, answer keys and normalization formulae for transparency in multi-shift NEET-PG exams," a Division bench of the Supreme Court comprising Justices J.B. Pardiwala and R. Mahadevan recently ordered.

Maharashtra May Permit MBBS Graduates to Skip One-Year Bond Service for PG Medical Courses: Report

The MBBS graduates in Maharashtra may get relief from the one-year mandatory bond service requirement. The State Government may allow such doctors from State-run medical colleges to pursue their postgraduation courses without first completing their bond service tenure, as per a recent report by Careers360.

Confirming this, an official from the State Medical Education Department informed Careers360 that the officials are discussing whether the new bond service rules, which were announced in 2017 but have not been implemented yet, would apply to the recently graduated medical students.

BAMS doctor suspended for making 5-year-old smoke to treat cold

Nearly a month after a video of a BAMS doctor went viral for encouraging and forcing a 5-year-old boy to smoke cigarette to cure his cold, the State Health Department suspended him from his position at the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Kuthaund. Apart from this, a chargesheet will be filed and disciplinary action will be taken against the doctor, as directed by Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister Brajesh Pathak, who confirmed his suspension on Tuesday.

Medical Dialogues in April reported that a BAMS doctor posted at the Community Health Centre in Kuthaund was caught on camera encouraging and forcing a 5-year-old boy to smoke cigarettes, claiming it would cure his cold and cough. The video quickly went viral on social media, following which the doctor was transferred to the district headquarters as part of his disciplinary action.

Bengaluru: Nine-month-old tests positive for Covid-19 

A nine-month-old baby boy has tested positive for Covid-19 in Bengaluru, according to health department officials. Harsh Gupta, Principal Secretary, Health & Family Welfare Department, said the baby tested positive via a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) on May 22. “The patient is stable and currently admitted to Vani Vilas Hospital in Kalasipalya, Bengaluru,” he said, news agency PTI reported.

According to health department sources, the baby is from Hoskote in Bengaluru Rural district and was initially admitted to a private hospital. On May 21, Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao confirmed that the state had reported 16 active Covid-19 cases. Nine-month-old tests positive for Covid-19 in Bengaluru
