UP Govt launches Special Communicable Disease Control Drive

With the onset of the monsoon season and the risk of vector-borne diseases, the Uttar Pradesh government has launched a state-wide Special Communicable Disease Control Campaign, along with the Dastak Abhiyan and Stop Diarrhoea Campaign.

Diarrhoea and Zinc Corners were inaugurated as part of the launch, while anti-larval spraying, fogging operations, and awareness vehicles were flagged off to initiate public outreach efforts.

These initiatives, led by the state government, aim to promote widespread public awareness and encourage community participation in the prevention and control of communicable diseases.

With the onset of the monsoon, the risk of vector-borne diseases such as dengue, malaria, chikungunya, and Japanese encephalitis increases significantly. Effective prevention of these diseases requires not just government action, but active involvement from the public.

Officials here said that the Communicable Disease Control Campaign, which began on July 1, will focus on identifying and controlling infections while spreading vital information door-to-door. The campaign emphasizes personal hygiene, handwashing, cleanliness, and the prevention of waterlogging. The government has called on all departments, citizens, ASHA workers, health personnel, schools, village heads, and voluntary organisations to transform this effort into a mass movement.

Quack arrested for running clinic in Ahmedabad

The Special Operations Group (SOG) of Ahmedabad Rural Police has arrested a man posing as an allopathic doctor in the Dholeshwarnagar area near Changodar Post Office. The accused was found operating a full-fledged medical practice without holding any recognised medical degree.

According to the news reports, the accused, identified as a native of Mandalhar village in West Bengal’s Nadia district had been illegally practising modern medicine from Shakti Avenue, Moraiya village, located off Changodar-Tajpur Road. Despite lacking any formal medical degree or registration with the Gujarat Medical Council, Ghosh continued to offer medical consultations and treatment to unsuspecting patients.

The Changodar Police have registered a case under the Gujarat Medical Practitioners Act, 1963.

According to Gujrat Samachar, acting on a tip-off, a SOG team conducted an operation and recovered allopathic medicines, syringes, injections, and other medical paraphernalia worth ₹27,403 from the suspect’s premises. A case has been registered at Changodar police station, and the accused has been taken into custody.

This is not Ghosh’s first brush with the law. He was previously booked in 2023 under the same Act for similar offences. Authorities suspect he may have been running the illegal practice for an extended period, posing a serious threat to public health.

MP HC stays order for NEET 2025 Re-exam for candidates affected by power outage

After a single bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court ordered a retest of 75 National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) candidates affected by a power outage during the examination on May 4, a Division bench of the High Court has stayed the order.

Justice Vivek Rusia and Justice Binod Kumar Dwivedi of the Indore bench of the High Court gave this verdict after hearing the arguments of all the concerned parties on the appeal filed by the National Testing Agency (NTA), a lawyer representing the candidates said.

On June 23, a Single bench of the High Court comprising Justice Subodh Abhyankar of the Indore bench had ordered a re-test of 75 affected candidates while citing Article 14 of the Indian Constitution, which ensures equality and justice, as the basis for its decision, stating that the students were placed at a disadvantage through no fault of their own.

The single bench of the HC had observed that the power failure created an unequal playing field, as some students at the same centres had access to sufficient natural light while others did not, PTI has reported.
