Puducherry: Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi urged the Director General of Police to take steps for the formation of a doctors committee, in consultation with the Director, Health and Family Welfare.

According to a Whatsaap message received from Rajnivas this evening, taking cognisance of news reports about relatives attacking doctors and damaging hospital property on death of patients, the Lt Governor has suggested that a team of doctors from Jipmer and general hospital could be drawn for this purpose.

The committee of doctors would examine the cases, where complaints of medical negligence are made to police and based on their recommendations, the police will take action.

The constitution of a doctors committee will be a path breaking initiative that would go a long way in putting to rest the controversies that erupt when complaints of medical negligence are made, the message added.
