Novel skin cream effective in improving periorbital wrinkles and dryness: Study

USA: Total Eye, a novel topical cream is effective in treating periocular rhytids and dryness, and it is also well-tolerated by the patients, states a trial data published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology.

Facial appearance is one of the most obvious and very important characteristics of an individual. A person's eyes play a very essential role in overall appearance. Facial aging is a complex and dynamic process. The periorbital subunit is one of the first facial regions to show signs of aging and even minor changes in its structure and volume can distort the perceived emotions of patients. Periorbital aging is presented as wrinkles, dryness, laxity, and dark circles. Surgical and nonsurgical procedures form an important basis for periorbital rejuvenation.

Jacqueline M., Calkin and Boudreaux Dermatology, USA, and colleagues conducted an 8-week open-label trial to evaluate the efficacy and tolerability of Total Eye® Firm & Repair Cream, for improving periorbital wrinkles, dryness, laxity, and dark circles.

Researchers enrolled a total of 25participants (22 female, 3 male), 35-65 years old, seeking periocular rejuvenation for the trial. Participants applied the product each morning and evening after facial cleansing. Study endpoints were set as changes in Investigator Clinical Grading and Eye Appearance Assessments, Subject Self-assessment Questionnaires, and tolerability after 4 and 8 weeks of treatment.

Key findings of the trial,

• All participants(100%), who completed the study (n-23) showed some global improvement in Weeks 4 and 8, and almost half (48%) achieved moderate or marked improvement.

• Improvements were observed for all parameters and were most pronounced for wrinkles, laxity, and dark circles

• Improvements for laxity and dryness were significant by Week 4 and for dark circles by Week 8

• In Week 8, participants agreed or strongly agreed that the product made their eyes feel more hydrated (100%), look and feel healthier (95%), and increased confidence in their eye appearance (91%).

• The product was well-tolerated by the participants.

The authors conclude that twice-daily Total Eye improved the overall appearance of the periorbital area was well-tolerated and most treated subjects were satisfied with the results. Thus, the product is a viable option for treating periorbital wrinkles and laxity and should be considered a safe and effective skincare option.
