Amritsar: Dr Sujata Sharma has been appointed the new Director of the Medical Education and Research Department, as well as  been made Registrar of the Punjab Medical Council by the government. They indeed come as accolades and make her a woman of distinction. Dr. Sharma gets promoted to the two prestigious positions after having headed the Department of Gynaecology  at the Government Medical College, Amritsar.

The appointment has been made after the earlier Director, Dr. Manjit Kaur Mohi, retired at the age of 58 years.  Government recruitment norms disallow administrative positions to those above 58 years of age, said an official source. Dr. Sharma, had earlier, also been the Medical Superintendent of Guru Nanak Dev Hospital.
